"Don't forget about art"
MEAS Sokhorn in collaboration w/KONG Vollak
6-10pm Thursday, Sept 8
Java Café & Gallery (downstairs)
56 Sihanouk Blvd

Sponsored by The Room Design Studio

In the effort to reclaim public space in the city, artist Meas Sokhorn uses the visual mediums of the street to transmit his message "don't forget about art." This phrase and other statements are inserted in the urban landscape, in sites and spaces carefully selected to challenge traditional notions of art and its display. As the works come into view, passers-by are invited to pause, to consider art and its value amidst the many competing visual stimuli like banners, stickers and graffiti.

These interventions around the city and their remnants are left to be destroyed, scavenged or recycled. To preserve their intention, Sokhorn has collaborated with photographer Kong Vollak to create photographic documentation of the interventions in situ. This will in turn be presented in an exhibition at the downstairs space of Java Café & Gallery, where there will also be a display of a 9m installation of "don't forget about art" in its "graffiti" format on the windows facing the street.
